Super Mario Galaxy Film Trailer Arrives, Revealing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. This occurred during a dedicated Nintendo presentation that highlighted the upcoming animated film.

The follow-up to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will propel Mario to the outer limits of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

A Cosmic Adventure Drawing from Iconic Releases

Similar to the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, for instance the Luma, a fan favorite from the previous film.

Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

All-Star Vocal Ensemble Come Back and Grow

The feature will see the return of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.

A Significant Period for Mario

The upcoming Mario film is set to release around the time of the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Beyond the film, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo has a trio of new releases already confirmed for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
