Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Crowd Support Despite Emphatic Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his disappointment that the England team did not enjoy more backing from the Wembley fans during their commanding 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday night.
The manager was happy to see his side maintain their good form, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the first 20 minutes settling the game. But, he was not content with the energy at the iconic venue.
âWe had one and a half training days to prepare against a organized team and we excelled,â Tuchel commented. âIt could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the fourth and fifth ones. The stadium was silent. There was no any energy from the crowd. We did everything to win.â
âWhat more can you deliver in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, itâs regrettable because the team earned more support today.â
âI support this statement. Thereâs nothing more than leading 3-0 in a rivalry match. I hoped for a little more backing in phases where it is challenging.â
âAfter halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It could have helped us to refocus, but it is what it is and that is it.â
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Away from potentially starting a fight with fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by leaving out Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. However the move was backed up by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and getting his first international goal.
âHe plays his game,â the head coach explained. âHe is a No 10 and he is competing for his spot.â
Bellamy Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that Wales, who face Belgium in a crucial World Cup qualifier on next week, learn from their disappointing performance in the opening period.
âThis is why I scheduled this match,â the manager stated. âI need to see our standing. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? Today gives me drive.â
Injury Concern for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at the break after clattering into a post and is a concern when England face their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
